The Ethiopian Covenant Gospel Church is a personal and private property of Jesus Christ. He is the single cause for its existence. If it were not for His precious blood we would not have any other cause and reason to draw people to the church. The message of His cross is the drawing force to gather all the members of the church.

It is with deep humility that we submit and relinquish any expectation or assumption of ownership of the church. The church's name is a reflection of the medium of language and culture through which it is conducting its ministries.

The church is made up of individual Christians who are housing the living Lord in their heart. The churches existence its purpose and goal is eternally related and fixed on Jesus Christ.

The sustaining power of the church, the lifeline that keeps it alive is the Holy Spirit. The fundamental and unadulterated cause for the Holy Spirit's presence in the life of the members of the church is the reconciling and justifying power of the blood of Jesus Christ. That is why the Spirit is poured in our hearts as the shower of love and approval of divine favor.

The vision of planting a new church in the Washington metro area had a long story. The Covenant Gospel Ministry (Visit www.wongel.org ) was the contributing agent for the church planting vision. As we were serving the Lord through CGM we realized that there were many people who were interested in our teaching. Some have even asked us to consider expanding the commitments of CGM towards church planting. After prayer and personal heart searching we proceeded to take action. We searched our heart and examined our vision and evaluated our goals extensively by consulting with a number of fellow Christians before we set our course to this noble work.

 

Why a new church?

 

All of the following points have been well processed in our hearts and minds before we decided to start a new church:

1. The staggering number of the Ethiopian population. Target group dynamics.

2. The need for body life and fellowship. This is the desire of many and it is possible in a new church.

3. The need for quality ministry. People are hungry for the word of God. They are desperately looking for churches to feed them.

4. The doctrinal and spiritual issues. Our vision is centered on and governed by the cross of Christ.

5. Integrity issues. We are committed to serve in an attitude of servant leadership.

6. The call of God. Ministry should be a response to the call and the grace that is invested on us.

The regulating force of our ministry

 

The message of the cross is the mark and flavor of everything that we believe and everything that we want to be. We are driven by the passion of the cross. No cross no discipleship. No cross no following the Lord. No cross no healthy church. The cross is the place where our debt is paid. The cross is the place where the sweet aroma gift was sacrificed on our behalf. The cross is the place where the power of evil relinquished its hold on humanity. The cross is our legal reason that can qualify us for the life of the resurrection. We are a community of the cross who are regulated and maintained by the message of the cross. We are formed by its message. We are shaped by its power. We are inspired by its mystery. We are humiliated by its love. The Word of the cross is our beloved Lord, Jesus Christ The Eternal King.
